About me

I was involved in building a lot of community FM broadcast stations back in the early 70′s and had a First Phone back then.  So I’m a pretty good radio geek and know a lot about radio regulations, but I didn’t get my ham ticket because of the code.  Now that the code requirement is gone, I’ve become a late-blooming no-code Extra-class ham.

Back in the day I worked on; WORT Madison Wi, KUSP Santa Cruz CA, KDNA St Louis MO, WYEP Pittsburg PA, KFAI Minneapolis MN, and WAIF Cincinnati OH. I was also one of the co-founders of the National Federation of Community Broadcasters (NFCB) in Washington DC.

In the early ’70s I moved on and since then I’ve been really involved in computers and the Internet (started the ISP gofast.net, Inc. in the mid-90′s up here in St Paul, MN). I got a little famous for turning down a buncha money for television.com, one of several domain-names I got back before the web. Here are a few of the other domains I picked up back then — bar.com, pub.com, grill.com, place.com, shelter.com and the one that started it all — haven.com, my personal home page which was recently sold and replaced with haven2.com.

I spend a lot of time at our farm (www.APrairieHaven.com) where we’re restoring the land to the way it was before it was homesteaded. So we’re really into prairie restoration, wetland restoration and returning the woods to the oak savannas that were here long ago. I spend a lot of time on the tractor and running chainsaws.

Look for info about my non-radio interests at my main blog — www.Haven2.com
